  3. The (Fitness) Journey Never Ends – it just changes

I love my job. I love my team…. But 2 years of management has destroyed my body…2 years of devolving into who we think of as “our clients” (sedentary, bad diet, sore back, looooong stints at the computer, high stress) has taught me just as much as recovery from illness did. And the the old adage “you don’t use it you lose it” has been deeply driven home.

Fitness isn’t a destination, just like life isn’t. It’s a process, and that’s what’s great about it. As our priorities shift and evolve, our bodies (and, in turn, minds) will as well. I’m at the crossroads where I’ve grown into my job enough that I can shift at least part of my priority back to myself and my wellness.

  4. Physical Strength is Feminist

If feminist is about equal expectation for everyone and women not being afraid or thought of as ‘less than’ or ‘other’, and if you can train to improve strength, isn’t strength training in itself an expression of feminism? If your goal is true independence and a life without fear, the ability to move and own your body confidently in a space is one vehicle to get there.

The axiom "don't meet your heroes" does not apply to @angeladuckw - what a delight it was to get to be her student! . . We use our heroes to bring out better versions of ourselves. To model the things we don't know if we're capable of. Angela modeled the kind of instructor I want to be: comfortable, funny, humble, curious, and geez is she smart! . . When have you met someone you admire who exceeded your expectations and what did you learn from them? . . #characterlab #grit #gritparagon #angeladuckworth #hero #meetyourhero #tt #throwbackthursday

2019 you threw me for a few loops ➰➰ . I broke 2 teeth and some of my self limiting beliefs. 🤓 . I got a new car 🚗, (only) 1 black eye #bjj , and into the grad program of my dreams: Penn's Master's in Applied Positive Psychology 📚 . Some of my projects flew, and some of them failed; all of them taught me important lessons. 🤔 . I helped clients grow, change, get lean, gain self awareness and confidence. And they grew me as a coach and human being. . Coach @meganhellerer suggests in her end of year post that we name the year. 2018 was all about breaking down... 2019 is The Year That Built Me Up. 🥳 . Take a page from Megan's book: what would you name your year? Share in the comments 👇 (and follow Megan. My first goal for 2019 was "reclaim Darlene Marshall" - I started the year with a divorce and name change, and I wanted to release the pain and confusion for something else. 🤔 One of my biggest successes this year was standing firmly in my sense of myself. Taking up space. Knowing my power and growing a life I'm proud of. 🥰 There's a lot of excitement coming in 2020; but I'm proud that 2019 was a good year. #top9of2019
