It’s now officially February.  For many the Whole30 is over, others are housing through the goal setting activities we set out for you, and no doubt many others are feeling overly pressured and just want a cupcake and a nap.  With so much out there clogging up the interwebs we thought it might be time to introduce an Amazon Week In Review! Some articles you might have missed, blogs you might love, and other sweet stuff going down.

Broken Boy

This morning’s #1 emailed NYTimes article is The Boy With The Thorn in His Joints.

A client sent it to me this morning and I cried for this little boy and his mother.  Shephard was 3 when he had the onset of juvenile idiopathic arthritis that debilitated him.  Through changing his diet and other “alternative” treatments he’s in remission, and only relapses when he has some gluten.

This feels like a bit of a win for the Paleo community, and also like a valuable resource article for you to be able to pass to friends and family when they say your Whole30 is insane.  Also, that 6 week number keeps coming up.

Shephard’s story also feels like reading the worst nightmares for potential parents who have joint and immuno disorders.  These are the fears of those of us who want to reproduce.  It’s good to know there’s hope if they come true.

Go Red For Women

An excuse for a little red dress.

An excuse for a little red dress.

Friday was Go Red For Women day, and I missed it for the umpteenth time.  It’s the annual Friday event where we’re all supposed to wear red and remind women to take care of their hearts.  To do our part, here are a few facts about women and heart disease you should know:

Little sister, all grown up. How blessed am I to have been a part of your perfect day. To get to share in your joy, and thereby multiply it with everyone else who came to celebrate. . Stunning 📸 by @stephanie.mccauley . 20 years ago our parents met. But I think our 5 siblings are the ones who really made out on this deal. . . #love #positiveemotionproject #bride #bridesmaid #fallwedding #bonussister #littlesister #perfectday #sisters
We're so good at making relationships complicated- with others and with ourselves! 🤦‍♀️ But when I peel away the layers of pain, defensiveness, and unhelpful patterns I'm left with 3 truths: 1️⃣ We're all human (I think👽) 2️⃣ We all have something to contribute. Unique combinations of skills and interests. Our passions and what we care about. They lead us to contributions that no one can make. And your world needs to what YOU can bring into it. 3️⃣ We all make mistakes - you. Me. Your boss. Your parents. Your kids. @msrachelhollis & @tonyrobbins . everybody. When you accept that you can forgive yourself and others for their human-ness. No one comes out perfect. We're all a work in progress. If you can accept this you can stop expecting perfection from yourself and others. Do these 3 ring true for you? Which of them do you struggle to accept and live? #growandchange #growthmindset #coaching #coachmentality #selfdevelopment #human #humanrace #acceptance #acceptyourself #weallmakemistakes
