As 2013 approaches no doubt you’re thinking of changes you’d like to make in your life “next year” (meaning tomorrow?) It’s tempting to believe that after the clock strikes midnight you’ll have found the discipline to flip the switch on your new self. I’m not here to tell you otherwise, but the people who have that sort of gift are few (If you are that person I’d LOVE to know how you do it… call me, maybe?) Instead of encouraging you to set up for failure the Urban Amazon crew has some plans to help you succeed in 2013, whatever your aspirations are.
Ever since UA switched from a journal-style blog to health and wellness focus it has been in our mission to help you live the best life you possibly can. One way we consistently do this is encouraging you to set attainable goals and push yourself to reach them. In that vein we’ll have a series of goal setting posts every Tuesday and Thursday in January to coach you through not just resolving to change, but actually changing.
If January is about reflection, and personal goals, the months that follow will be focused on actualizing those goals, and eventually broadening their effect. How can your commitment to good health, body and mind, manifest in your personal circles, your neighborhood, your city, your world? This kind of change isn’t easy, but you’re Amazons! You’re not afraid of a little hard work, right?
For those who have active Amazon Challenges, or those who are going to start one in 2013, the goal setting work of January can tie directly into the challenges you’ve already set for yourself.
The trainers of UA, some of our clients, many of our readers, and our mothers, friends, aunts, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, and random hangers on are planning a massive Whole30 in January. If you’d like to join us HOP ON BOARD! If you’re not sure, here are 30 Reasons to do a Whole30.
Darlene did a Whole30 back in October with some surprising results; but rumor on the street is that it’s “different every time”, so she’ll be back with a week by week re-boot every Sunday. We’ll also be doing some co-support via our Facebook (which you should like anyway!) and you can get good tips on the Whole30 Facebook.
Do something good for your body after all that holiday stress.
Our awesome nom nom writer Ann will continue to deliver her weekly food blog, Amazon EATS. This is quickly becoming the most popular feature here at UA – but we need something back from you! What do you want to learn to cook in 2013? What food experiments are you dying to try but are a little afraid of? What food stuffs are you seeing in the grocery store but wouldn’t know how to make edible if your life depended on it? Don’t be afraid, ask Ann
Was that cauliflower & anchovies post just too far out there? Did you LOVE the one on hash? TELL US! Use the comments, that’s what they’re for. (I know you’re out there… I can hear your eyeballs scanning…)
Need some incentive? Ann has also generously offered to do in-house home cooking visits! If you love EATS but feel like a moron in your own kitchen, don’t be shy. Ann will come over and help you prepare a meal step by step (we’ll promise, she’ll be gentle… until you ask otherwise!). You’ll even be featured in an EATS post. Now isn’t that exciting? For now this is only in New York City (where the divine Ms A resides) but when she’s traveling she may open it up to other locales.
We’ve also got some fun surprises on the way, including the return of SET LIST, more Wisdom Wednesday, some contests toward the middle of the year, a possible upgrade and face lift of the site itself, live tweeting of everyone’s favorite health and fitness reality show, and much more!
