Wisdom Wednesday: Work-Life Balance

August 1, 2012 by Darlene McC

Good morning, Amazons, and happy August!  My apologies: I had a great Marilyn Monroe themed post about body acceptance to herald my flight from New York and some much needed time off – but I never clicked the ‘Publish’ button!  I’ll re-work it in some way to get the info out to the world; but in honor of those of us who forget to take the time to take care of ourselves, some useful wisdom:

Regardless of your thoughts on her politics, I feel that our First Lady’s health and wellness initiatives are to be praised; and growing up hearing her as Ms Frizzle on Magic School Bus gives Lily Tomlin a special place in my heart.  New Yorkers are famous for not slowing down, but this is a nation-wide problem.  Polls showed last year that up to 70% of Americans weren’t going to use all their vacation days in 2011 – Jet Blue showing they’re giving up 11 days on average.  ELEVEN DAYS!

Recognize that the better care you take of yourself the better you’re able to get your shit done well, you’ll feel better about yourself, and you’ll have a higher self-assessed quality of life.  So, where are we going?

Every Wednesday I share quotes, ideas, and thoughts to help inspire, drive, and provoke reflection.  Check out past Wisdom Wednesday posts, share your thoughts in the comments, and feel free to share some of what inspires you for future posting.
