Last week I shared something that’s been brewing in my brain container for some time: a game system for all the things we you want to achieve. A way for us to bind together, support one another, and reach for the life we want: The Amazon Evolution Challenge. I’m starting to hear feedback, and it’s amping me up! Some things I’ve been asked about, like building something “facebook like” for you to post your stuff on, I’m just not ready to support here (it’s just a little blog, remember?); but what I CAN do is share with you some of what other Amazons have already started.
May I present:
Lykaios: New Recruit (0 points)
Challenge begun: 5/10/12
When The Amazon Evolution Challenge went up last week a friend from college posted on Facebook how excited she was to get started. To protect her privacy I asked her to choose an “amazon name” for the purposes of this post (and her own badassness). She is Lykaios: Greek for “wolf-like”. To help encourage others to jump on the band wagon she agreed to let me share her Amazon Evolution Challenge.
- Re-take GREs; bonus for math scores over 70%: 20, 20 pts
- Publish wildlife article: 45 pts
- Reach 25 contacts on LinkedIn: 25 pts
- Zipline: 15 pts
- Kayak: 15 pts
- Finish sealing basement: 50 pts
- Deck: 25 pts
- Try yoga: 20 pts
- Hike 3 mountains over 1 mile: 40 pts each
- Run a 5K, no walking: 40 pts
- Drop to 15% body fat: 45pts (my year resolution was 18%, but I was at 20% last I checked, after dropping 7%, so I decided to lower this)

- 5 full pull-ups: 25 pts (I hate pull ups!)
- 15 full push-ups: 25 pts
- Write to the 1/4 mark: 50 pts
Lykaios opted to use the levels provided and is shooting for level 5, Quail Hunter, based on the current goals. I asked Lykaios to share a bit about her process and experience so far:
What made you want to try the challenge?
I decided to do the challenge because I wanted to make some changes this year in terms of being more productive and more active and this seemed like a fun little motivator. I finally graduated from college so now I have to the time make some self-improvements that I didn’t feel I was able to before.
Have you scored any points for yourself yet?
No points yet, but I’ve been slowly working on my writing and I’m hoping to tackle the deck this weekend. Some of the other things are going to take more time.
Do you already consider yourself an “Amazon” of sorts or are you hoping the challenge will inspire that in you?
Not sure what you mean by “Amazon,” but I like to be active and I’m outdoorsy and I like weapons lol. So yeah, maybe I am.
Have you recruited anyone to do it with you?
I posted my note about the challenge but no bites yet.
Have you done anything (like posted a visual reminder) to keep yourself on it?
The only thing I’ve done to keep myself on track is write out the list and post it on FB. I’ll make updates to that note as I progress.
Did setting it up cause you to have any realizations about yourself, your goals, or desires?
I did notice that many of my goals are fitness related, but that didn’t really surprise me because I’ve been on a kick lately. I tend to get a little pissy when I’m not active so I’m sure everyone will benefit from my trying to reach my goals.
Are you in?
Join the tribe and see how you can evolve your inner Amazon. Check out the Pillars of the Tribe, start your own Amazon Evolution Challenge, and post in the comments your own list and ideas for Lykaios or the other Amazons.
