Something New #33 – Mythos

It’s a very clear memory, the first time I rock climbed.  Though it was outside, it was an artificial wall erected at the county fair and I came back so many times the guy working it stopped charging me (maybe he felt bad that I had no friends and was with my mom…).  It was 12 or 13 years before I started climbing with any regularity or outdoors on actual rocks; and the coyotes I bought then are 1 bad slip away from a toe blow-out.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve tried to find other shoes before; but I’m a difficult fit and a bit of a whiner when it comes to my feet.  Luckily the girl at the local EMS was patient, and also flat footed, so she knew where I was coming from.  I ended up taking home the La Sportiva Mythos.  According to Madame Sales-Lady it’s a great shoe for those long gunks climbs, and since I’m hoping to start multi-pitch this summer I’m going to want a shoe I can stand to be in for more than 20 minutes.

They’ve got a great unique lacing pattern that allows for a nice close heel fit; which is exactly what the Dr ordered for my blister-prone tootsies.  Can’t wait to break ’em in.

Something New #34 – Corn Meal Banana Bread

This one was a delicious accident.  On a day when I promised myself I wasn’t going to leave the house unless it was on fire (it almost did, but that’s a story for another time) I attempted to combat some writers block by making banana bread… but low and behold, as I start mixing it all up I find that we’re almost out of flour from the last weekend pancake fest; and there was no way I was putting on pants and going to the store if I could help it.  In my kitchen foraging I found a bag of corn meal my best friend dumped on us when she moved to LA and thought “why the hell not?”.

Let me just say: awesome.  Replaced 3 parts cornmeal to 1 part flour in the normal recipe and it made it thicker, heartier, and more moist.  Lovin’ it.

Sometimes you just need a change in perspective 🤔 . . . I haven't posted much the last few months as I underwent some huge personal transformations. Some days have been a struggle; other days the progress has been obvious. Through it all my meditation and self care have let me see my own resiliency. They've taught me to look beyond my flitting thoughts to my deeper self and work to my real truths. They've also shown me that much of life is what I do with it and how I interpret what's happening around me. . . . Not gana lie... that felt heavy 😅 (scroll to see my exit face) . . One thing consistent training has taught me: work through sh*t. Things will get hard, they'll feel weird, you won't understand it - keep going. Explore the challenge. Hunt for someone who's handled something similar and learn from them.
